Today at Sarah's school, the kids were gathered for a special announcement from the Chamber of Commerce. I was asked to come in by her teacher, which is not unusual since I help in the classroom a lot, so I wasn't suspicious at first. Then the speaker explains they are here to announce the winner of the hot air balloon art contest because the winner - from over 300 entries by 3rd & 4th graders - was from our school.
(Lots of kids start squealing here!) Then they announce it is a girl.
(Lots of girls squealing...) Then they announce it is a fourth grader.
(Squealing and wiggling in their seats now.) It is someone from Sarah's classroom.
(We can't take this much longer.) Then they held up the shirt with the artwork, and asked the artist to come up.

I captured Sarah's face as she realized it was her artwork on the shirt! She was stunned, excited, happy and embarrassed. She couldn't believe it, especially since she thought she hadn't had enough time to do a really good job. She walked up front amid cheers and clapping to accept the awards and $25. They gave her a shirt and one for each of her family members. Ben was so proud, he couldn't wait to show everyone the shirt. Afterwards, they went to the classroom with us and did some extra activities with her class including passing out chocolate balloons. Quite yummy! It was a great day for Sarah.
